Smart home security system

The technology behind home security systems has changed significantly in the last decade. Almost all home security systems are now wireless, and many of which also work as home automation systems. This means you are getting extra value for your money.

A smart home security system is now much easier to use, thanks to smartphones and central touch-screen panels.

In this blog we’ll look at all the aspects of a smart home security system, how it works and the benefits of a smart home security system.

What is a smart home?

A smart home means your house has a smart home system that connects with your appliances to automate certain tasks and can be remotely controlled.

You can use a smart home system to program your sprinklers, set and monitor your home security system and cameras, and even control appliances like your refrigerator or your air conditioning and/or heating system.

What is a smart home security system?

A smart home security system is an automated system by which something is secured through a system of interworking components and devices. In simple words, you can control the security and safety of your home with a touch of a button.

Over here, we’re talking about home security systems, which are networks of interconnected electronic devices working together with a central control panel to protect your home against burglars and various other potential home intruders or security breaches.

A typical home security system includes the following things:

  1. A control panel, which is the primary controller of a home security system
  2. Door and window sensors for detecting any break-ins
  3. Motion sensors, both interior and exterior of the house to detect any unusual movements
  4. Wired or wireless security cameras in and around the house
  5. High-decibel siren or alarm
  6. Yard sign along with window stickers

How does a smart home security system work?

The main purpose of a home security system is to keep the property surrounding you, and the people inside it safer.

A home security system can monitor any harm that may come in the form of a burglary, home invasion, fire, flood, or other environmental disasters. Smart home security systems use a combination of different sensors that communicate over radio frequencies or wires to a central controller, which then communicates with the outside world.

The central hub is generally a touch screen mounted to your wall or a small box placed on a counter or in a cupboard, which explained well in this image.

The motion sensors are installed strategically around your home at entry points and they detect when a door or window is opened or closed, when someone is moving around in your home or both.

When the system is armed, it will send an alert to the hub after any of the installed sensors are triggered. The hub then sounds an audible alarm, sends you a notification (a phone call, text, or a notification on a mobile app), and can alert a monitoring centre if you have professional monitoring.

In today’s time, it is crucial to make sure that your family and your belongings are both safe 24/7 with a smart home security system.
