Once installed, you will need to download the free Lyric App, available on Apple and Android smart devices. For every detector that you have, register and name it in the app and connect to your home Wi-Fi network.
As soon as a leak or frozen pipe is detected, an alert will be sent to your smartphone, no matter where you are.

Basically, the detector has a built-in temperature sensor that senses the temperature every hour. If the temperature hits that threshold that you set, you will get notified through the Lyric App and a text will be sent to you so long as you turn your Push notifications on for the app.
The same goes for detecting a leak. Measured in drops, as soon as the device detects a potential leak or water hits the cable, an alert will be sent to your smartphone through the app.
You can specifically choose which notifications and alerts you wish to be sent to you. To do this go into the settings section of the app and enable which alerts you wish to receive notifications for.
The types of alerts and notifications you can receive are:
1. Water – when the water leak detector or cable sensor detects water
2. Temperature and Humidity – when your temperature and humidity is outside the default or custom settings in your app
3. When the device goes offline
4. Low battery levels
5. When any of the above alerts have been resolved
